Men’s track and field team soundly defeats Colby

LEWISTON, Maine — The Bates College men’s indoor track and field team won 13 of 17 events en route to a 125-48 victory in points over Colby College in a dual meet Saturday at Merrill Indoor Gymnasium.

The highlights were many for the Bobcats. Among them, senior co-captains Noah Gauthier (Amherst, N.H.) and Emmanuel Drabo (Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso) both claimed first place in two events, as did first-year sprinter Ryan Quinn (Watertown, Mass.).

Quinn won the 55-meter sprint in 6.66 seconds and the 200 meters in 23.04 seconds, both lifetime best times. His performance in the 200 qualified him for the ECAC Division III Championships.

Drabo won the long jump in 20’6.5″, qualifying him for the New England Division III Championships, and took the triple jump in 44’05.25″, which qualified him for both New Englands and ECACs.

Gauthier won the 35-pound weight throw in 57’11.75″ and the shot put in 48’03.25″.

Other winning performances for Bates included:

  • Junior Dillon Tung (South Pasadena, Calif.) won the 5,000 meters with a lifetime best performance of 15:59.24.
  • Sophomore Peter Garber (Short Hills, N.J.) claimed first place in the pole vault with a lifetime best of 12’3.25″.
  • Sophomore Griffin Stabler (Keene, N.H.) came from behind to win the 1,000 meters in 2:35.46, qualifying him for both New Englands and ECACs.

Next up for Bates is a meet at Southern Maine next Saturday at 12 p.m.
