No. 8 men’s squash team defeats St. Lawrence, George Washington

LEWISTON, Maine — The Bates College men’s squash team defeated St. Lawrence University 7-2 on Friday and George Washington 7-2 on Saturday, raising the Bobcats’ record to 6-3 this season.

The Bobcats are now listed at No. 8 in the College Squash Association rankings released this weekend. The top eight teams in the end-of-season CSA rankings will play in the top bracket of the CSA Team Nationals, known as the Potter Cup. The Bates program has yet to crack that elite company.

Bates defeated a scrappy St. Lawrence team on Friday, with the visiting Saints taking three matches to a fifth game before losing, and also winning one of their points in a five-game matchup.

Sophomore Kush Mahan (Gainesville, Fla.), Bates’ No. 3 player, missed both of the weekend’s matches, and the Bobcats’ No. 2, senior co-captain Sean Wilkinson (London, England), also missed the George Washington match.

Bates (6-3) will next play host to Bowdoin on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
