LEWISTON, Maine — The No. 8 nationally ranked Bates College men’s squash team convincingly defeated No. 12 Bowdoin by an 8-1 score Wednesday night at the Bates Squash Center, raising the Bobcats’ record to 7-3, while the Polar Bears dropped to 11-7.
The match was a tuneup for both teams for this weekend’s NESCAC Squash Championships, which run from Friday to Sunday at Trinity College. Bates is the No. 2 seed behind the juggernaut host Bantams, while the Polar Bears are seeded No. 4. (The Bates women’s squash team is the third seed at the NESCAC women’s championship, also at Trinity.)
Winning for Bates were senior co-captain Ricky Weisskopf (San Salvador, El Salvador) at No. 1; senior co-captain Sean Wilkinson (London, England) at No. 2; sophomore Kush Mahan (Gainesville, Fla.) at No. 3; sophomore Jordan Greenberg (Malvern, Pa.) at No. 4; first-year Matt Marchisotto (New York, N.Y.) at No. 5; first-year Will Katz (Bronxville, N.Y.) at No. 6; first-year Nick Echeverria (Washington, D.C.) at No. 8; and junior Marc Taggart (Skippack, Pa.) at No. 9.
Bowdoin senior Ray Carta (Manchester, Conn.) scored the Polar Bears’ lone point at the No. 7 position.
