Women’s squash defeats Colby for third place at NESCACs

HARTFORD, Conn. — The Bates College women’s squash team defeated Colby College 6-3 on Sunday to claim third place in the 2008 NESCAC Women’s Squash Championships.

Third-seeded Bates (9-8), ranked 12th in the College Squash Association, won points at positions 4 through 9 against the fourth-seeded Mules (9-7) to take third place for the second time in the tournament’s two-year history. Earning points, in order, were senior Charlotte Gerrish (Rye, N.Y.), sophomore Whitney Roller (Haverford, Pa.), junior Sarah Blomstedt (Gill, Mass.), junior Margot Webel (Locust Valley, N.Y.), first-year Stephanie Cabot (Dover, Mass.) and junior Sophie Runquist (Kent, Conn.).

Bates will next play host to Tufts University on Friday at 4:30 p.m., in a rematch of the Bobcats’ 8-1 win in the NESCAC quarterfinals on Saturday.
