CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Bates College men’s squash team downed Cornell University 6-3 Saturday in the semifinals of the Hoehn Cup (B) Division bracket at the College Squash Association Men’s Team Nationals at Harvard University.
The Bobcats (13-4), seeded 10th in the tournament and second in the Hoehn Division, will play for the Hoehn Cup on Sunday against the No. 9 seed University of Rochester, which defeated Navy 6-3 in the other semifinal. The match is scheduled to start at 12 p.m. at Harvard. Rochester edged Bates 5-4 in Lewiston on Jan. 12.
Senior three-time All-American Ricky Weisskopf (San Salvador, El Salvador) backed up his No. 10 national individual ranking by defeating No. 11 Cornell’s 11th-ranked Chris Sachvie 3-0, avenging a 3-0 loss to Sachvie on Jan. 18 at Yale. Joining Weisskopf as victors were fellow senior co-captain Sean Wilkinson (London, England) at No. 2, sophomore Kush Mahan (Gainesville, Fla.) at No. 3, first-year Will Katz (Bronxville, N.Y.) at No. 6, first-year Nick Echeverria (Washington, D.C.) at No. 7 and junior Chip Russell (West Hartford, Conn.) at No. 8.
