Linton named SAAC Student Athlete of the Month

Jenn Linton ’08

LEWISTON, Maine — Bates College senior Jenn Linton has been voted the SAAC Student Athlete of the Month for February 2008, the Bates Student Athlete Advisory Committee’s academic subcommittee announced today.

Linton (West Redding, Conn.) was a four-year letterwinner for the Bates volleyball team, serving as co-captain this past fall.

Linton was named NESCAC Fall All-Academic twice and was named to the first NESCAC All-Sportsmanship Team last fall. A middle blocker and outside hitter on the court, Linton led the Bobcats in attack percentage (.198) and blocks per game (0.57) in 2007.

Linton is undergoing a year-long biochemistry thesis project, focused on strains of bacteria found in both shelter and domestic dogs. As part of this thesis she is doing both service learning work with a veterinary clinic and bacteriology lab work. Jenn is looking to further her career in veterinary work after graduating from Bates.

Linton has also been heavily involved in the student housing office as a Residence Coordinator and on the residence life staff.

The SAAC Academic Subcommittee compiles nominations from faculty and students in order to vote for a winner.  Detailed nominations for the next month’s award may be sent to phallora@bates.edu.
