Drabo, McNeil impressive at Open New Englands

BOSTON — Bates senior captain Emmanuel Drabo finished 15th in the triple jump on Saturday, highlighting the Bates men’s track and field team’s day at the all-divisions Open New England Indoor Championships at Boston University.
Drabo (Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso) registered a top jump of 42’08.25″.
Also on Saturday, sophomore Rich McNeil (Lawrence, Mass.) placed 17th in the shot put at 45’10.00″.
Bates finished 20th in the 4×400 relay with a time of 3:27.44, the Bobcats’ best time of the season. Running the relay, in order, were first-year Ryan Quinn (Watertown, Mass.), sophomore Carlos Castro (Mexico City, Mexico), first-year Brett Epler (Wellesley, Mass.) and Drabo.
McNeil placed fourth in the 35-pound weight throw on Friday, heaving the weight 56’04.50″ to place behind only three men out of a field of 23. Senior Noah Gauthier (Amherst, N.H.) placed 12th in an off day for him at 52’04.00″.
Other standout performances for the Bobcats included sophomore Doug Brecher (Waban, Mass.), who was 11th in the 5,000 meters in 15:07.66.
Next up for Bates are the ECAC Indoor Division III Championships, March 7-8 at Harvard University.
