Women’s alpine skiers tackle giant slaloms at NCAAs

BOZEMAN, Mont. — Bates first-year skier Micaela Holland finished 22nd out of 35 competitors to lead the three-woman Bates alpine contingent in the giant slalom Thursday at the NCAA Skiing Championships at Bridger Bowl.
Holland (Belmont, Mass.) had a two-run combined time of 1:51.16. Close behind her were junior teammates Liz Thompson (Rangeley, Maine) in 26th place with a time of 1:53.24 and Emily Sampson (Plymouth, N.H.) in 27th place in 1:53.38.
The Bates combined ski team has a score of 81 points after the first two days of NCAAs, putting the Bobcats 15th out of 21 scoring teams. between Williams (115) and Montana State (74).
The NCAA Skiing Championships continue tomorrow (Friday) back at the Nordic venue, Bohart Ranch, where junior Sylvan Ellefson (Vail, Colo.) will compete in the 20K Classic Technique race. The Bates alpine contingent will tackle the slaloms on Saturday, the final day of the championships.
