CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Bates junior Jen Marino broke the Bates women’s indoor record in the triple jump and qualified provisionally for nationals Friday at the ECAC Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, held at Harvard University.
Marino (Methuen, Mass.) finished eighth out of a field of 24 with a top jump of 36 feet, 9.75 inches, surpassing by 3.75 inches the previous school record of 36’06.00″ set by Anne Millham in 1987.
Sophomore Vantiel Elizabeth Duncan (Topsham, Maine) continued her breakout sophomore season with a fifth-place finish in the shot put (41’01.50″).
The Bates duo’s combined five team points have Bates tied with Johns Hopkins and Widener for 18th out of 34 scoring teams after one day of the two-day meet.
