McNeil, Epler score for Bates men at ECAC Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Sophomore Rich McNeil and first-year Brett Epler both scored points for the Bates College men’s track and field team Friday on the first day of the 2008 ECAC Division III Indoor Championships, held at Harvard University.
McNeil (Lawrence, Mass.) placed fifth in the shot put with a heave of 48’02.75″ to earn three team points for the Bobcats. Meanwhile Epler (Wellesley, Mass.) finished eighth in the pentathlon with 3,133 points. Epler excelled particularly in the 1,000 meters, with a fourth-best time of 2:46.47 (803 points).
With four team points, Bates is tied with eight other teams for 24th place out of 35 scoring teams at the meet.
Also competing for Bates on Friday:
- First-year Ryan Quinn (Watertown, Mass.) registered the 14th best time in the 55-meter dash preliminary heats with a time of 6.65 seconds.
- Senior captain Emmanuel Drabo (Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso) placed 14th in the triple jump, with a top mark of 44’07.50″.
- Sophomore Doug Brecher (Waban, Mass.) placed 20th in the 5,000-meter run, with a time of 15:32.27.
