LEWISTON, Maine — Bates College senior Danilo Acosta has been voted the SAAC Student Athlete of the Month for March 2008, the Bates Student Athlete Advisory Committee’s academic subcommittee announced today.
Acosta (Quito, Ecuador) is a captain and four-year member of the Bates men’s tennis team. He has represented Bates as a NESCAC All-Academic selection for both Spring 2007 and Fall 2007.
Acosta is a biochemistry major with a 3.74 grade point average and he has been able to successfully manage his time between athletics, academics and campus jobs. He has been a Spanish tutor all four years at Bates, and speaks daily to teammates who have studied abroad in Spanish-speaking countries to help them stay fresh with their skills.
Acosta has aspirations of going to medical school, possibly in his home country of Ecuador. Because of his interest in orthopedics and medicine, he decided to do his thesis on bone morphogenetic proteins, which are used for enhancing the healing of bone fractures.
