Two Bates records fall for women’s track at NESCACs

CLINTON, N.Y. — Izzy Alexander won the 400-meter hurdles in a school record time as Bates College finished seventh out of 11 teams Saturday at the NESCAC Women’s Track and Field Championships at Hamilton College.

Sophomore Vantiel Elizabeth Duncan (Topsham, Maine) took first place in the shot put (13.51 meters), and junior Jen Marino (Methuen, Mass.) broke her own Bates record in the triple jump, finishing second in 11.22 meters.

Duncan also placed third in the hammer throw (43.43) and fourth in the discus throw (35.26). Marino was also seventh in the long jump (4.92).

Alexander (Harvard, Mass.) finished the 400 hurdles in 1:02.46, winning her second NESCAC title in the event and breaking her own former Bates record of 1:02.51. Alexander was also fourth in the 100 hurdles (16.13 seconds).

Other point-scoring (top eight) performances for Bates included senior Cassandra Kirkland (Greene, Maine) in the hammer throw (43.21, 4th) and discus (35.26, 4th), senior Aviva Goldstein (Manchester, N.H.) in the 10,000 meters (39.07.01, 5th), Sarah Ellen Godek (Gilford, N.H.) in the shot put (10.70, 6th) and hammer (38.65, 8th), and the 4×400-meter relay team (4:07.48, 6th) comprised of Marino, first-year Dana Lindauer (Needham, Mass.), sophomore Lisa Hartung (Farmington, Maine) and senior Amy Rosania (Rye Beach, N.H.).

Next up for the Bobcats are the Division III New England Championships at Coast Guard, which begin with the women’s heptathlon on May 1 and carry through May 3.
