SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Bates College senior John Miley finished second in the decathlon, leading the Bobcats men’s track and field team on the second and final day of the ECAC Division III Track and Field championships at Springfield College.


Bates tied with Southern Maine for 11th out of 53 scoring teams at the meet, with 25 points.


Miley (Hanson, Mass.) scored 6,025 points, just five points shy of Nick Perzanoski of St. Lawrence. Miley met provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Outdoor Championships with his effort, which included a first-place finish out of 14 competitors in the discus throw (122-07), second in the 1,500 meters (4:30.96) and a tie for fifth in the pole vault (11-01.75), all on Saturday.


Meanwhile senior Emmanuel Drabo (Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso) placed fourth and earned All-ECAC honors in the triple jump, with a top effort of 45-06.25.


Sophomore Rich McNeil (Lawrence, Mass.) placed seventh in the shot put (48-03.25) a day after winning the hammer throw title.


Friday Recap


McNeil won the hammer throw on Friday, with a top throw of 184 feet and 1 inch topping Coast Guard’s runner-up Chris Hunt (181-09) and meeting provisional qualification standards for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.


Junior Jerome Bennett (Chicago, Ill.) placed 17th in the pole vault at 13-11.25, while senior Matthew Lopez (Lexington, Mass.) finished 16th in the hammer throw (151-01).


The meet resumes Friday morning at Springfield College.
