Alexander qualifies for finals at NCAAs in 400 hurdles

OSHKOSH, Wis. — Bates College junior Izzy Alexander qualified for the finals in the women’s 400-meter hurdles on Thursday at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.


Alexander’s time of 61.94 seconds broke her own Bates record of 62.46 seconds in the event, set earlier this season, and was the seventh best time in the preliminary heats.


Alexander (Harvard, Mass.), a two-time All-America, will run in Lane 2 when the 400-meter hurdle finals take place Saturday at 3:15 p.m. Central at UW-Oshkosh’s Titan Stadium.


Three Bates athletes will compete Friday at nationals, with sophomore Vantiel Elizabeth Duncan (Topsham, Maine) competing in the women’s hammer throw at 3 p.m., and on the men’s side, senior Noah Gauthier (Amherst, N.H.) and sophomore Rich McNeil (Lawrence, Mass.) competing in the men’s hammer throw at 6 p.m.
