LEWISTON, Maine — The Bates College women’s lacrosse team reaped a total of three awards on Sunday as the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association announced its annual academic awards.
The Bobcats as a team earned distinction as a 2008 IWLCA Division III Academic Squad, by virtue of the team’s average grade point average exceeding 3.0.
Two individual players, attack Caroline Thomas (Barrington, R.I.) and defender Sarah Young (Charlemont, Mass.), also earned places on the 2008 IWLCA Division III Academic Honor Roll, for players who have achieved at least junior year status and have maintained a minimum GPA of 3.2.
Thomas’s academic award caps off a brilliant season in which she led the Bobcats in scoring with 38 goals and 15 assists, the team’s highest offensive numbers in three years. An economics major, Thomas was named to the NESCAC All-Conference First Team and received her second consecutive All-Region honors from the IWLCA.
Young, a psychology major, played in eight games on the year, making one start.
