Men’s cross country places third out of 10 at Jumbo Invitational
GRAFTON, Mass. — The Bates men’s cross country team fared well in a highly competitive field at the Tufts Jumbo Cross Country Invitational, with Bowdoin (38 points) taking first place and Stonehill (49) edging out Bates (58) for second place. The top three teams distanced themselves from the rest of the field, with Augsburg (126) finishing fourth.
Head coach Al Fereshetian praised his team’s efforts, including Devin Dilts (Roscoe, Ill.), a sophomore transfer from Vanderbilt University, whose fourth-place finish of 27:20.22 was the fourth fastest finish ever by a Bates men’s runner on the 8-kilometer Tufts course.
“We had a number of very, very nice races today,” Fereshetian said. “It was a great meet for us.”
Following Dilts in Bates’ top seven were junior Doug Brecher (Waban, Mass.), who was ninth overall in 27:49.15; freshman Troy Calandra (Oakland, Calif.), who was 10th in 28.04.96; freshman Sean Colligan (Goffstown, N.H.), who was 12th in 28.10.46; senior Dillon Tung (South Pasadena, Calif.), who was 24th in 28:46.37; freshman Peter Corcoran (Stillwater, Minn.), who was 27th in 28:57.48; and freshman Ben Chebot (Newton, Mass.) who was 31st in 29:10.89.
Augsburg’s Brent Haglund was the first place finisher with a time of 26:42.76.
Bates will compete in two weeks (9/27) at the Wesleyan Invitational.
