AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst College field hockey topped Bates College 3-1 in a NESCAC matchup on Saturday, moving to 2-1 in conference play and 3-1 overall.
Sophomore Sema Kazarian (Providence, R.I.) netted her first collegiate goal as Bates dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
Sophomore forward Haley Douds netted the game-winner, and the Jeffs also got goals from Caki Guinee and Alyssa Dudzik.
Amherst controlled possession early, earning a total of 11 first half penalty corners. Amherst found the back of the net when Guinee swept in a cross from Liz Schink with under 12 minutes remaining in the first half.
Both teams threatened but failed to convert before halftime. Bobcats sophomore goalie Katie McEnroe (Hockessin, Del.) turned away eight first-half attempts and finished the day with 11 saves.
Bates evened the score four minutes into the second half as Kazarian knocked in the equalizer in traffic in front of the Amherst net after a breakaway opportunity.
With 20 minutes remaining, Schink crossed to Douds, who knocked in the go-ahead score.
Bates looks to get on track at home in a non-conference game against New England College on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
