AMHERST, Mass. — The Amherst College women’s soccer team ran away with a 7-0 win over Bates College in a NESCAC women’s soccer game on Saturday at Hitchcock Field.
The Lord Jeffs improved to 2-0 in conference play and 2-1 overall, while the Bobcats dropped to 0-2 in the NESCAC and 1-2 overall.
Amherst burst out of the gate, scoring just 2:10 into the first half of play with a goal by junior Kathy Nolan (Palo Alto, Calif.) streaking in from the right wing. Nolan met the ball just feet from the goal and calmly one-touched a shot into the back of the net. At the half, Amherst led 4-0 and held an 18-0 edge in shots and an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks. As the final whistle blew, Amherst held a 27-4 edge in shots, and a 12-0 advantage in corners. The Jeffs used three keepers to combine for 4 saves and the shutout win, while Bates goalies Brittney French (Auburn, Maine) and Annie Burns (Topsfield, Mass.) collected 9 and 2 saves, respectively. First-years Amanda Gifford (Lee, Maine) and Sam Alper (Holliston, Mass.) each took a pair of shots for the Bobcats.
Bates will host Babson in a non-league game on Thursday at 4 p.m.
