Brown propels women’s soccer to 4-1 win at USM

GORHAM, Maine — Senior Julie Brown (Lynnfield, Mass.) scored a career-high three goals to drive the Bates College women’s soccer team past the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday, 4-1.
Bates moves to 3-5 this season with its second consecutive victory, while Southern Maine falls to 3-6-1.
Brown responded to the Huskies’ Caitlin Brown scoring in the 26th minute with three consecutive tallies, in the 40th, 43rd and 57th minutes of the game, giving her the team lead with five this season.
First-year forward Sam Alper (Holliston, Mass.) added a fourth goal for Bates in the 65th minute, her fourth this year. Alper added an assist, while senior Jen Marino (Methuen, Mass.) and junior Avery Pierce (Weston, Mass.) also collected assists.
Sophomore Brittney French (Auburn, Maine) and Annie Burns () split timei n goal for Bates.
The Bobcats next play at Trinity on Saturday at 11 a.m.
