Billington has 5 kills in final home volleyball match

LEWISTON, Maine — Bowdoin College edged Bates College by a 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 27-25) score in a NESCAC volleyball match Wednesday night at Alumni Gymnasium. The win raises the Polar Bears to 13-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play, while the Bobcats drop to 9-10 overall, 0-3 in conference.
Playing in her final home match, co-captain Beth Billington (St. Paul, Minn.) collected 5 kills. First-year Grace Haessler (Portland, Ore.) paced the Bobcats with 24 assists, 11 digs and 4 kills, while junior Tess Dokus (Salem, Conn.) had a team-high 6 kills. First-year Olivia Schow (Costa Mesa, Calif.) had 5 kills in just one set, while junior co-captain Liz Leberman (Concord, N.H.) also had 5 kills to go with 11 digs.
Juniors Kira Kramlich (San Francisco, Calif.) and Brittany Johnston (Winter Park, Colo.) led the Bates back line with 14 and 11 digs, respectively. Junior Avery Masters (Mill Valley, Calif.) had a team-high 4 blocks.
Stephanie Drumright led Bowdoin in attacking with 8 kills. Kristin Hanczor and Skye Lawrence tallied 6 kills apiece, with Hanczor adding 3 service aces and 3 blocks, while Lawrence also came up with 14 digs.
Jenna Diggs collected 26 assists in the win, while Anna Noucas had 12 digs.
Bates will next play four matches in two days at the Crabtree Invitational at Eastern Connecticut State University. The Bobcats will face the University of New England Friday at 6 p.m., followed by a showdown with host Eastern Connecticut at 8 p.m.
