Samuelson leads women’s XC at Open New Englands

BOSTON — Junior Abby Samuelson led the Bates College women’s cross country team to 26th place out of 45 teams from all NCAA divisions Saturday at the Open New England Championships at Franklin Park.
Samuelson (Freeport, Maine) covered the 5-kilometer course in 19:23, good for 93rd place out of 301 runners overall. Senior Izzy Alexander (Harvard, Mass.), competing in her first cross country race this season, finished second for Bates and 134th overall in 19:51. Rounding out Bates’ six runners were junior Katie Bash (Wallingford, Pa.) in 19:54, sophomore Jen Mitton (Reisterstown, Md.) in 19:57, senior Allie Goldstein (Needham, Mass.) in 20:15 and junior Esther Kendall (Ridgeway, Ontario) in 20:19.
Bates next competes at the State of Maine Championships, hosted by Southern Maine at Twin Brook Recreation Area in Cumberland.
