Beckwith named Maine Co-Player of the Week

LEWISTON, Maine — Bates College senior Val Beckwith was named Co-Player of the Week by the Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, the MWBCA announced on Monday. Beckwith shares the honor with Stacey Kent of Southern Maine.
Beckwith (Woburn, Mass.) led Bates (5-1) to a 3-0 week last week, averaging 20.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 54 percent from the field. In the process she moved into eighth place on Bates’ all-time scoring list, now with 1,128 points.
It is the second Player of the Week honor this season for Beckwith, who was also named Co-Player of the Week in the New England Small College Athletic Conference on Nov. 24. It is also the second time the two-time All-State and two-time All-NESCAC forward has earned Co-Player of the Week honors from the MWBCA — she earned the same honor on Nov. 20, 2006.
