Weekend preview: men’s basketball hosts Bowdoin, Colby

LEWISTON, Maine — This weekend promises to be another action-packed one for Bates College’s winter sports teams. At home, the Nordic and alpine ski teams kick off the Eastern Intercollegiate Skiing Association carnival season with the Bates Winter Carnival on Friday and Saturday; meanwhile on campus at Alumni Gym, the men’s basketball team (8-7) hosts archrivals Bowdoin (10-4) on Friday at 7 p.m. and Colby (10-4) on Saturday at 3 p.m. Both games, as with all of Bates’ home basketball games, will be webcast live on BatesCast.com. Ryan Horvath ’10 and Alex Macrokanis ’10 will have the call from the balcony.

The Bates women’s basketball team plays at Bowdoin (13-3, 1-0 NESCAC) on Friday at 7 p.m. and at Colby (8-6, 0-1) on Saturday at 3. The Bobcats (13-4, 2-0) have won three in a row and five of their past six games.

The Bates squash teams have a tough row to hoe this weekend in Connecticut. The No. 11 ranked Bates men play at No. 3 Yale and at defending national champion Trinity, all on Saturday, before finishing with Connecticut College on Sunday. The Bates women will also face Yale and Connecticut College on successive days.

The Bates swimming and diving teams compete at Colby in a dual meet on Saturday, while the men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams both travel to Waltham, Mass., for the Brandeis Invitational on Saturday.
