WALTHAM, Mass. — The Bates College women’s track and field team finished fourth out of nine teams Saturday at the Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational meet at Brandeis University. The Bobcats scored 102 points, behind Bowdoin (157), Brandeis (154) and Amherst (110), and ahead of Colby (80), Southern Maine (38), WPI (32), Smith (30) and Emmanuel (8).
Junior Vantiel Elizabeth Duncan (Topsham, Maine) led the Bobcats with wins in the shot put (41-07.00) and the weight throw (48-02.00).
Other event winners for the Bobcats included senior Izzy Alexander (Harvard, Mass.), who finished first out of 17 competitors in the 600-meter run and broke her own Bates record by 0.22 seconds with a time of 1:37.49.
Other standout performances included junior Katie Bash (Wallingford, Pa.) finishing second in the 800 (2:25.65); senior Jen Marino (Methuen, Mass.) placing third in the 400 (1:02.55); first-year Tina Tobin (Lowell, Mass.) placing third in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.09 seconds; the 4×400 relay team of sophomore Dana Lindauer (Needham, Mass.), Tobin, Marino and Alexander placing second in 4:09.27; and sophomore Sara Ellen Godek (Gilford, N.H.) placing third in the weight throw (43-07.25).
Bates next competes at the USM Invitational next Saturday, Jan. 31.
