Weekend preview: Women’s hoops hosts final home games

LEWISTON, Maine — The Bates College women’s basketball team hosts its final two home games of the regular season, highlighting another active weekend for Bates winter sports teams.

The Bobcats (14-5, 3-1 NESCAC) take on Connecticut College (7-10, 0-4) on Friday at 7 p.m., and Wesleyan University (9-7, 1-3) on Saturday at 3 p.m., on Senior Day for senior forwards Val Beckwith and ShawnRose Lanchantin. Both games will be webcast live at BatesCast.com, with Ryan Horvath ’10 and Alex Macrokanis ’10 on the call.

Also at home, the Bates swimming and diving teams host their second of three home meets this season, as Wheaton College and NESCAC foe Tufts University visit Tarbell Pool at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The men’s basketball team (10-8, 1-3 NESCAC) will be at Connecticut College (10-8, 0-4) on Friday at 7 p.m. and at Wesleyan (5-11, 1-3), led by former coach Joe Reilly, on Saturday at 2 p.m. Follow live stats of the Bates-Conn College game at http://www.conncoll.edu/athletics/livestats/xlive.htm. The Bates men’s and women’s squash teams head to Trinity College this weekend for the NESCAC Squash Championships, with matches on Saturday and Sunday. The men’s team is the No. 3 seed, while the women are seeded fifth. Read the tournament previews at www.nescac.com.

The Bates alpine and Nordic skiing teams have their second carnival of the season at the University of New Hampshire, with alpine competition at Attitash Mountain and Nordic races taking place in Jackson, N.H.

The Bates indoor track and field teams, meanwhile, have a short road trip to the USM Invitational at the University of Southern Maine on Saturday at 1 p.m.
