Women’s track and field wins USM Invitational

GORHAM, Maine — The Bates College women’s indoor track and field team recorded nine first-place finishes on Saturday at the USM Invitational, en route to a first-place team finish out of six squads.

The Bobcats scored 219 points, ahead of host Southern Maine (173.5), Smith (113), Gordon (53), Emmanuel (49.5) and Clark (5).

Junior Vantiel Elizabeth Duncan (Topsham, Maine) won both the shot put (40-10.25) and the weight throw (50-00.75) to pace the Bobcats.

Also winning events for Bates were:

  • senior Izzy Alexander (Harvard, Mass.) in the 400 (1:00.29);
  • junior Katie Bash (Wallingford, Pa.) in the mile (5:19.52);
  • sophomore Jennifer Mitton (Reisterstown, Md.) in the 3,000 meters (10:59.41);
  • first-year Tina Tobin (Lowell, Mass.) in the 55-meter hurdles (9.05 seconds);
  • senior Jen Marino (Methuen, Mass.) in the triple jump (35-06.50);
  • the 4×400 meter relay team of junior Molly Radis (Peaks Island, Maine), Tobin, sophomore Dana Lindauer (Needham, Mass.) and Marino (4:14.28);
  • the 4×800 meter relay team of Bash, senior Allie Goldstein (Needham, Mass.), first-year Kelley Madden (Birmingham, Ala.), and first-year Rebecca Dugan (Port Murray, N.J.)(10:32.39).

Bates will next host the State of Maine Championships on Friday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m.
