BRUNSWICK, Maine — The Bates College women’s swimming and diving team competed in their first day of the NESCAC Championship today at Bowdoin College. Senior Kelsey Lamdin (Brunswick, Maine) made the most of her only event on the day, the one-meter dive, placing first in the finals with a score of 466.90.
In the preliminary round for the event, Lamdin broke a Bowdoin pool record for the one-meter dive when she received a high score of 447.60. The win was made even more special due to the fact the NESCAC Championship is taking place in her hometown of Brunswick, Maine. Lamdin is a 2005 graduate of Brunswick High School. Also, in the one-meter dive finals, Bates junior Annaliese Rudis (North Andover, Mass.) placed fifth with a score of 356.50.
In swimming action, Bates sophomore Charlotte Green (New Canaan, Conn.) placed second in the 50 yard freestyle finals with a time of 24.10, breaking her own Bates record by .16 seconds. Green was .18 seconds behind first place finisher Emily McDonald from Middlebury.
Green’s tremendous second-place finish comes on the heels of the honor she receied last week from CollegeSwimming.com. Last week, Green was named Division III Women’s National Swimmer of the Week by CollegeSwimming.com.
In the 200 yard IM finals, Bates junior and one-time All-American, Katelyn Drake (Hudson, Ohio) placed sixth with a time of 2:10.27. Drake was just 0.03 seconds behind fifth-place finisher Annie Friedlander from Middlebury.
Drake and Green teamed up with first-years Emily Tato (Chatham, N.J.) and Kara Leasure (Los Alamos, N.M.) in the 400 medley relay. The team placed 7th out of 10 teams with a time of 4:00.67, ahead of Bowdoin, Connecticut College, Wesleyan and Trinity.
