HADLEY, Mass. — Bates College junior Chris Wilson (Brewer, Maine) was named to the 2009 NESCAC Men’s Basketball All-Conference Second Team, the New England Small College Athletic Conference announced on Wednesday.
It is Wilson’s first all-conference honor for the 6-foot-0 junior guard, who was one of three team captains for the Bobcats.
Wilson led the Bobcats in scoring (11.9 points per game), assists (4.4 apg), free throw percentage (.857), three-pointers (37) and steals (23) while also pulling down 4.1 rebounds per game, ranking third on the team in that category. In conference games, Wilson averaged 13.3 points and 4.4 assists per game while hitting 3-pointers at a .444 clip.
With Wilson as Bates’ primary ballhandler and playmaker, the Bobcats went 13-12 overall in Jon Furbush’s debut season as the team’s head coach, earning the No. 6 seed in the NESCAC Championship with a 4-5 conference record.
Wilson was named the Maine State Player of the Week by the MMBCWA on Feb. 10 after averaging 19.5 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists per game while leading Bates to a 54-53 win over Trinity and a narrow 71-66 loss to nationally-ranked Amherst, in which he scored a career-high 24 points.
