Women’s track and field sends two to NCAA Indoor Championships
LEWISTON, Maine — The Bates College women’s track and field team will send two athletes to the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, which take place this Friday and Saturday at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind.
For the second straight year, senior Izzy Alexander and junior Vantiel Elizabeth Duncan will compete at the meet.
Alexander (Harvard, Mass.), a team captain, will make her third trip to indoor nationals, competing in the 800-meter run. The three-time All-American is the sixth seed in the 800, with an adjusted time this season of 2:14.32, which she achieved on the banked track at Boston University at the Open New England Indoor Championships on Feb. 28. She finished sixth in the 800 last year at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Duncan (Topsham, Maine) will compete in both the weight throw and the shot put for the second straight year. Duncan is the seventh seed in the weight throw, based on her top throw this season of 54-07.25, achieved last weekend at the ECAC Division III Indoor Championships at Tufts. Duncan finished eighth in the weight throw last year, earning her first All-America honors. She is the 14th seed in the shot put, based on her season-best mark of 43-07.75 at Open New Englands on Feb. 28.
