Men’s lacrosse falls in road game at Williams
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — The Bates College men’s lacrosse team dropped a 10-2 decision at Williams College in a NESCAC contest on Sunday afternoon, as the Ephs scored eight straight goals after the Bobcats had tied the game at 1-1.
Matt Cranshaw got Williams (1-2, 1-1 NESCAC) on the scoreboard first on a feed by David Hawley 66 seconds into the game. After Hawley was whistled for slashing in the final two minutes of the first quarter, the Bobcats (0-4, 0-2) cashed in with an extra-man goal scored with 1:05 left in the quarter by senior Tyler Moore (North Andover, Mass.), who was assisted by first-year Thomas Repko (New Canaan, Conn.).
Williams got back on top, however, with 9 seconds left in the quarter, as Cranshaw scored unassisted. The goal started an 8-0 run that carried the Ephs into a 9-1 lead until late in the fourth quarter, when Bates senior defender Nate Kellogg (Natick, Mass.) scored unassisted with 4:07 remaining to close the gap to 9-2.
Hawley led the Ephs with three goals and one assist, while Richard Reuter also scored three.
Bates first-year goalie Adam Scharff (Glyndon, Md.) made 10 saves with a team-high six ground balls for the Bobcats, while Michael Gerbush made 14 saves for Williams.
Bates will play host to Gordon College in a non-league contest on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
