Matt Knortz named All-NESCAC in men’s lacrosse

Matt Knortz ’09 was a reliable defender and three-year starter for the Bobcats.

HADLEY, Mass. — Bates senior defender Matt Knortz earned NESCAC Men’s Lacrosse All-Conference Second Team honors, the New England Small College Athletic Conference announced on Wednesday.

Knortz (East Granby, Conn.) was the team’s most reliable defender and one of the Bobcats’ four captains, along with John Adams, Nate Kellogg and Sean O’Brien. A three-year starter on the Bates defense, Knortz has improved his ground-ball total in every season, and finished the 2009 season with a team- and career-high 48 ground balls.

Knortz becomes the Bobcats’ first All-NESCAC defender since his former teammates B.J. Majeski ’06 and Ryan O’Connor ’06 both earned Second Team honors in 2006.
