HADLEY, Mass. — Bates College senior Stacia Saniuk (Sharon, Mass.) was named to the 2009 NESCAC Softball All-Conference First Team, the New England Small College Athletic Conference announced today.
Saniuk led Bates to its first trip to the NESCAC Softball Championship in 2009, capping one of, if not the, best offensive careers in the program’s 34-year history. She established career-high totals in batting average (.436), on-base percentage (.532), doubles (8) and walks (16). She ranked fifth in the conference in batting average, second in slugging percentage, at .679, and third in on-base percentage.
This is the fourth time on the All-NESCAC softball team for Saniuk. She earned NESCAC Rookie of the Year award and Second Team All-NESCAC honors in 2006, followed by a place on the Second Team in 2007, and being honored as First Team All-NESCAC as a junior. The National Fastpitch Coaches Association named her to its All-New England Second Team, making her Bates’ first NFCA All-Region player since Katie Franklin ’07 earned the honor in 2006.
Saniuk ends her career as the owner of a whopping seven Bates career offensive records: most hits (127), most home runs (20), most doubles (26), most extra-base hits (48), most total bases (219), most runs batted in (88) and most bases on balls (40). She started in all 113 of Bates’ games during her career.
In the team’s final week, Saniuk averaged .737 (14-for-19) at the plate, hitting six doubles, walking three times, scoring four runs and driving in eight others.
