LEWISTON, Maine — Three members of the Bates College women’s lacrosse team were named All-Region Thursday by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association.
Senior midfielder Caroline Thomas (Barrington, R.I.) was both named to the Pilgrim Region First Team for the second straight year, while senior defender Lauren Kruck (Boxford, Mass.) and first-year midfielder Jenna Dannis (Milford, N.H.) were both named to the All-Pilgrim Region Second Team.
It is the third time on the All-Region team for Thomas and the first for both Kruck and Dannis.
Thomas, who had a breakout 2008 season with 38 goals and 15 assists, improved in each offensive category in 2009, notching 46 goals and 16 assists, boosting her career totals to 118 goals and 45 assists and a certain place among the best offensive players in the program’s history. A shifty attacker with excellent field vision and stick skills, she led Bates to its first appearance in the NESCAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship since 2002.
Kruck started all 16 games this season and finished with 20 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers. Dannis, in addition to scoring 17 goals with eight assists, tying for fourth on the team in points, led the Bobcats with 35 caused turnovers and 19 draw controls, and was second on the team in ground balls (32).
