LEWISTON, Maine – Bates seniors John Adams and Matt Knortz have been selected to play in the prestigious NEILA East-West All-Star Lacrosse Game, which includes some of the top players from Divisions I, II and III. The game is being played on May 31 at Tufts University, but Adams and Knortz are graduating from Bates the same day and will be unable to play.

Adams (West Hartford, Conn.), a midfielder, scored one goal and assisted on four others in 13 games of action in 2009, while collecting 29 ground balls.

Knortz (East Granby, Conn.) was the Bobcats’ most reliable defender and one of the team’s four captains, along with Adams, Nate Kellogg and Sean O’Brien. A three-year starter on the Bates defense, Knortz has improved his ground-ball total in every season, and finished the 2009 season with a team- and career-high 48 ground balls.

Earlier this month, Knortz became the Bobcats’ first All-NESCAC defender since his former teammates B.J. Majeski ’06 and Ryan O’Connor ’06 both earned Second Team honors in 2006.
