Men’s golfers open play at two-day Bowdoin Invitational
LEWISTON, Maine — The Bates College men’s golf team placed seventh out of nine teams at Sunday’s conclusion of the two-day Bowdoin Invitational. With a two-day total of 654, the Bobcats were eight strokes behind sixth-place Tufts and 18 strokes ahead of eighth-place Southern Maine. Husson won with a 599.
First-year Jared Quenzel (West Hartford, Conn.) led Bates by tying for 16th place out of 53 competitors. Quenzel carded a 79 on Saturday and an 80 on Sunday for a 159, tied with Johnny Bohorquez of Bowdoin and Jake Killea of Williams. Junior Mike Kelen (Baltimore, Md.) was a stroke behind at 160, in a three-way tie for 19th place. Senior newcomer Chris Wilson (Brewer, Maine) had an impressive debut with the golf team, shooting a 166 for 30th place. Senior captain Kurt Schuler (Windham, N.H.) tied for 35th with a 169.
Next up for the team is the UMF Invitational at Sunday River Golf Course.
