Schulze leads women’s XC to win over Bowdoin

NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine — The Bates College women’s cross country team defeated rival Bowdoin 90-127 in a dual meet hosted by Bates Saturday at Pineland Farms. The meet scored the top 10 finishers for each team to determined the final team score.
Bates first-year Liz Schulze (San Diego, Calif.) ran out to the head of the pack and built a healthy lead, ultimately winning the 5-kilometer race in a time of 19:38, 14 seconds ahead of runner-up Lindsay Hodge of Bowdoin.
Bates senior Esther Kendall (Ridgeway, Ontario) was edged out by Hodge by one second and settled for third. Rounding out the top 10 overall finishers were Olivia Mackenzie of Bowdoin, Christina Arguleta of Bowdoin, Bates senior Abby Samuelson, Bates senior Katie Bash (Wallingford, Pa.), Molly Porcher of Bowdoin, Amanda Solch of Bates and Bates junior Jennifer Mitton (Reisterstown, Md.).
Bates, ranked No. 35 nationally and seventh in New England, next competes at the Codfish Bowl, next Saturday at Boston’s Franklin Park at 11 a.m.
