Burns earns ECAC, NESCAC women’s soccer weekly honors

LEWISTON, Maine — Bates sophomore goalkeeper Annie Burns was named ECAC Division III Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, a day after she was named NESCAC Women’s Soccer Co-Player of the Week by the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
Burns continued her exceptional sophomore season in net for Bates (2-2-1) last week. On Wednesday she made 11 saves in a 1-0 shutout win at Wellesley College. Then on Saturday she amassed a career-high 17 saves in a 2-0 setback against Trinity College.
Also a standout on the Bates women’s basketball team, Burns now ranks first in the conference in saves per game at 11.60, nearly three more than any other goalie in the league. Her save percentage of .892 ranks seventh in the conference.
Burns and the Bobcats will play host to Husson on Wednesday at 4 p.m., followed by a Saturday home date against Tufts, during Parents & Family Weekend.
