Pyne steps forward in volleyball match vs. Camels
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — The Bates College volleyball team engaged in a close match against a tough opponent on Friday night, ultimately falling by a score of 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-23) to Connecticut College in a NESCAC match played on a neutral court at Wesleyan. The Camels (11-3, 2-1 NESCAC) stopped Bates’ four-match winning streak.
First-year Eliza Pyne (Atherton, Calif.) led the Bobcats (8-3, 0-3 NESCAC) in kills with nine and in blocks with three. Sophomore setter Grace Haessler (Portland, Ore.) had a team-high 30 assists and two service aces, while first-year Nicole Russell (Boca Raton, Fla.) and senior Liz Leberman (Concord, N.H.) came up with 10 digs apiece.
Marissa DeMais paced Connecticut College with 35 assists and 12 digs.
The Camels pulled away toward the end of the first two sets, both of which were neck and neck most of the way. In the third set, the Bobcats came back from as much 18-7 behind to close the gap to 24-23.
Bates will play host Wesleyan tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
