Bates junior forwardPatrick Jackson(Durham, N.H.) scored twice in the final six minutes and 32 seconds to push the Bates men’s soccer team past host UMaine-Farmington 2-1 in a non-conference game last Tuesday in Farmington.Jackson’s game-winner came with 1:04 left in the contest, with darkness and a downpour both looming, off a lead pass by junior Tyler Dewdney (Meriden, N.H.). Jackson tied the match at 83:28 when he hammered in a well-placed cross by first-year Ethan Hirshberg(Concord, N.H.).
Jackson, who led the Bobcats in scoring last season with nine goals and two assists, is currently second on the team in scoring with his two goals.
Bates plays a road game against Southern Maine on Wednesday, to be played at Yarmouth High School at 6 p.m. The Bobcats will travel to Williams for a NESCAC contest on Saturday at 1 p.m.
|Grace Haessler ’12
In a 1-2 week for Bates, including a 3-1 win at Colby, a 3-0 loss to Connecticut College and a very close 3-2 decision at Wesleyan, sophomore setter Grace Haessler(Portland, Ore.) continued to distribute the ball masterfully, averaging 10.0 assists per set while also contributing 19 digs, six kills and two blocks.With Haessler setting up hitters like Tess Dokus, Liz Leberman, Olivia Schow, Avery Masters, Eliza Pyne and Chrissy Gee, the Bobcats rank fourth in the conference in kills per set (11.60) heading into this week, while Haessler is third in the NESCAC in assists per set (9.86).
Haessler and the Bobcats have a non-conference match on Tuesday at St. Joseph’s College, then will play a weekend set at Bowdoin, against Tufts on Friday at 8 p.m. and against the Polar Bears on Saturday at 11 a.m.
