Volleyball competes well against red-hot Jumbos
BRUNSWICK, Maine — The Bates College volleyball team made a strong showing against the first-place team in the NESCAC, Tufts University, in a conference match played Friday night at Bowdoin. The Bobcats fell by close scores in each set, in a 3-0 setback (31-29, 25-23, 25-21).
Tufts (18-1, 4-0 NESCAC) has won 18 in a row since a season-opening loss to UMass-Boston.
Bates (9-5, 0-5 NESCAC) will play at Bowdoin again tomorrow at 11 a.m., in the conference matchup against the host Polar Bears (12-6, 2-2).
Senior Tess Dokus (Fairport, N.Y.) had a team-high eight kills for Bates, along with four digs. First-year Eliza Pyne (Atherton, Calif.) had a team-high four blocks with four kills, and sophomore Grace Haessler (Portland, Ore.) had 27 assists with three kills and three blocks. Senior Liz Leberman (Concord, N.H.) had seven kills and seven digs, while first-year Nicole Russell (Boca Raton, Fla.) had a team-high 16 digs. Sophomore Olivia Schow (Costa Mesa, Calif.) contributed four kills, four aces and two blocks, and senior Avery Masters (Mill Valley, Califr.) added six kills.
