BOSTON — The Bates College women’s cross country team submitted a solid and balanced effort on Saturday at the all-divisions Open New England Championships, held at Franklin Park, finishing in 25th place out of 49 teams overall.
The Bobcats were ninth among Division III teams and edged out in-state rivals Colby (26th) and Bowdoin (28th).
First-year Liz Schulze (San Diego, Calif.) led the way for Bates by finishing 116th out of 322 runners, covering the 5K course in 19:38. Seniors Katie Bash (Wallingford, Pa.), Abby Samuelson (Freeport, Maine) and Esther Kendall (Ridgeway, Ontario) were next in 19:50 (143rd), 19:54 (152nd) and 20:00 (162nd), respectively. Junior Jen Mitton (Reisterstown, Md.) rounded out Bates scorers in 20:05 (172nd).
Bates was 19th in the sub-varsity race, led by sophomore Jenny Monsulick (Readfield, Maine) in 72nd at 20:30.
Bates will next compete at the State of Maine Championships at Colby on Oct. 17 at 11 a.m.
