Bates College junior captain Devin Dilts(Roscoe, Ill.) earned All-State honors for the second time by finishing third for the second straight year, leading the Bobcats to third place out of 10 teams at the State of Maine Cross Country Championships Saturday at Colby.Dilts finished the 5-mile course in 26:39.20 for third place out of 122 runners overall. Following Dilts for Bates was a pack of four Bobcats between 16th and 21st places: junior Tom Esponnette (Auburn, Maine) in 16th (27:39.20), senior Conor Welch(Newburyport, Mass.) in 17th (27:39.30), first-year Ryan Rice (Franklin, Mass.) in 20th (27:53.00) and first-year Eric Kimball(Manchester, Mass.) in 21st (27:57.40). Rounding out the Bobcats’ top seven runners were first-year Graham Pearsall (Guilford, Maine) in 24th (28:14.90) and junior Peter Gurney (Arlington, Va.) in 29th (28:36.70).

Bates College seniorKatie Bash(Wallingford, Pa.) posted her best race of the season thus far Saturday at the State of Maine Cross Country Championships, and she took home her first All-State honors in cross country.Bash joined fellow seniorEsther Kendall(Ridgeway, Ontario) in earning All-State honors by finishing among the top seven runners overall as the Bobcats finished third out of eight teams at the meet.
Kendall finished the 5-kilometer course in 19:36.80, good for sixth place out of 137 runners overall, and a mere 2.3 seconds behind third place. Bash (Wallingford, Pa.) was right behind in seventh at 19:37.80, giving Bates two All-State finishers for the first time since 2003.
