Winter season begins in earnest this weekend, home and away
LEWISTON, Maine — The winter athletic season begins quickly this weekend, with both basketball teams playing at tournaments on the road and both a swim meet and a unique squash match taking place in Lewiston.
On Friday night, the Bates men’s basketball team begins play in the Keene State Tipoff Tournament, with a 9 p.m. matchup against SUNY Cobleskill. On Saturday they’ll play either the host Cardinals or Thomas College at 5 or 7 p.m. Follow both games live via live stats and live video.
Friday night will also find the Bates women’s basketball team beginning its 2009-10 season at the Brandeis Tipoff Tournament with a game against Mount Holyoke set to start at 8 p.m. The following afternoon the Bobcats will take on either the host Judges or Wentworth Institute. Bates men’s and women’s squash kicks off the season with a bang over the weekend. Both the men and women play at NESCAC rival Tufts on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Harvard University. On Saturday, the Bates men have three matches to play at Harvard (against Wesleyan, Brandeis and Connecticut College). The women also have three matches on Saturday at Harvard, against Wesleyan, Boston College and Connecticut College.
On the home front, the Bates men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams play host to NESCAC rivals Trinity and Wesleyan on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Tarbell Pool.
On Sunday, the vaunted Trinity College men’s squash team makes its first-ever visit to the Bates Squash Center in Lewiston. The Bantams have won 11 consecutive College Squash Association national team championships, and are owners of a 202-match win streak.
