Bates senior captainChris Wilsonscored 21 points and added seven assists as Bates defeated Husson 75-63 in the championship game of the Paul Bunyan Invitational on Saturday, before a crowd that surely included friends and acquaintances, as the All-NESCAC guard hails from Bangor’s neighboring town of Brewer, Maine.Wilson was named the tournament’s MVP. Bates had a 3-1 week as Wilson scored 13.8 points per game with 5.3 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Meanwhile, he shot .581 (18-31) from the floor, including 9-16 (.563) behind the three-point arc.
Wilson currently ranks among NESCAC leaders in scoring (13.0 ppg, 17th), three-point shooting percentage (.533, 5th), assists (4.14 apg, 9th), free throw percentage (.750, 11th) and assist/turnover ratio (1.38, 9th).
|Annie Burns ’12
Bates sophomore point guard Annie Burns(Topsfield, Mass.) had 10 assists and no turnovers while scoring nine points, grabbing six rebounds and making four steals as Bates beat Norwich University 70-64 in the championship game of the Ed Hockenbury Classic. Burns was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.On the Bobcats’ 4-0 week, Burns averaged 6.5 points, 7.3 assists and 4.3 steals per game.
For her efforts on the week, Burns was alsonamed Co-Player of the Week by the Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA), and to the weekly Honor Roll by the New England Women’s Basketball Association (NEWBA).
