Sports weekend: Bowdoin, Colby visit for hoop doubleheaders
Bates winter athletic teams are all in action this weekend, with a pair of basketball doubleheaders on tap against rivals Bowdoin and Colby, as well as an indoor track and field meet including Division I Maine.
Men’s and women’s basketball will host Bowdoin on Friday night (6 p.m. women’s game, 8 p.m. men’s game) and Colby on Saturday afternoon (2 p.m. women, 4 p.m. men). If you can’t make it to Alumni Gym for all the action, you can still follow both games via Live Webcast and Live Stats, both free of charge.

All four of this weekend’s Bates basketball games will be televised in Maine!
Friday’s men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader against Bowdoin will be telecast by YNETV. The games will be shown on tape delay on WPXT-TV, Maine’s CW network affiliate. The men’s game will air on Saturday, January 23, at 8:30 p.m., and the women’s game will be air on Sunday, January 24, at 4:30 p.m.
The broadcasts of the Colby games, which will be produced by Zinger Video Productions, are to be shown on Time Warner Cable Channel 9, with the women’s game slated for Jan. 25 at 8 p.m. and the men’s game airing on Jan. 26 at 8 p.m.
Just a short walk from Alumni Gym, some top-notch track and field athletes will be on display as the Bates indoor track and field team hosts Division I Maine as well as Division III rivals Colby and Southern Maine. The men’s and women’s pentathlon takes place on Friday at 5 p.m.; the rest of the meet begins Satuday at 12 p.m. at the Walter Slovenski Indoor Track.
In the same building, Merrill Indoor Gymnasium, over at Tarbell Pool, the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams go head-to-head against Colby in their final home meet of the season. The meet starts at 1 p.m.
The Bates squash teams have relatively light weekends ahead, and all are at home or nearby. Men’s squash hosts Bowdoin at the Bates Squash Center on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by Northeastern University on Saturday at 6 p.m. Fresh off of Thursday night’s 8-1 home win over Colby, women’s squash plays at Bowdoin on Saturday at 12 noon before heading back to Lewiston to host Northeastern at 6.
The Nordic and alpine ski teams have theiir second EISA carnival of the season this weekend at the St. Michael’s Carnival. The Nordic team competes at Sleepy Hollow, while the alpine team races at Smugglers Notch.
