Holland, Manter place in top 10 in slaloms at St. Michael’s

JEFFERSONVILLE, Vt. – Junior alpine skier Ben Manter (Vassalboro, Maine) raced to a tremendous eighth place finish out of 45 racers in the slalom (1:35.85) to lead the Bobcats at the St. Michael’s Winter Carnival.
Sophomore Alex Jones (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) was next for the Bobcats earning a 34th place finish with a combined run time of 1:51.19. Junior Ross Brockman (Sudbury, Mass.) wasn’t too far behind Jones, finishing 44th for Bates with a combined run time of 2:29.15.
On the women’s side, Bates junior Micaela Holland (Belmont, Mass.) continued her great skiing with a tenth place finish out of 45 skiers in the women’s slalom with a combined time of 1:48.74.
First-years Zoe Livingston (Sharon, Vt.) and Caitlin Forbes (Hanover, Maine) rounded out the top three for the Bobcats in the slalom with solid finishes at the 18th and 26th position respectively.
Bates’ combined alpine and Nordic ski teams finished in eighth place (471.5) out of 12 teams at the St. Michael’s Winter Carnival. The Bobcats finished well ahead of Harvard (350), host St. Michael’s College (343), Bowdoin College (149) and UMaine Presque Isle (93).
The Bobcats strap on their skis for competition again Feburary 5th and 6th at the University of Vermont Winter Carnival at Stowe.
Holland registered her third top-twenty finish in a row pacing the women with an 18th place finish out of 43 competitors, with a combined run time of 1:46.11. Sophomore Kristin Waddle (Harpswell, Maine) was less than a second behind Holland and finished 22nd (1:46.74). Just behind Waddle was teammate and Livingston finishing in 23rd place (1:47.28).
On the men’s side, Jones led the way with a 22nd place finish out of 44 racers with a combined time of 1:42.62. Manter and Brockman were close behind coming in 24th (1:42.22) and 30th (1:42.96) respectively.
