Swimmers earn high marks out of the pool
LEWISTON, Maine — The Bates College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams have had great success in the pool this season, and are now being recognized for their tremendous prowess in the classroom too.
The College Swimming Coaches Association posted the men’s and women’s Division III Team Scholar All-American for Fall 2009 today. The Bobcat women proved they were up the task with an incredible seventh place ranking out of 230 teams overall, with a team grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or greater. The women finished the fall semester with an impressive team GPA of 3.44, only .01 points behind the three teams tied for sixth place. Bates had the third highest GPA in the NESCAC behind first-ranked Hamilton (3.59) and third-ranked Connecticut College (3.51).
The Bobcat men had great success in the fall semester as well. The men earned a 25th place ranking out of 230 teams overall, with a team GPA of 3.0 or greater. The men’s team earned a noteworthy GPA of 3.11, and were also just a hundredth of a point behind the 24th place teams.
Both the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams take to the pool tomorrow in their final meet before the NESCAC Championships. The Bobcats take on Wellesley and Connecticut College in a dual meet at Wellesley College at 1 p.m.
