HADLEY, Mass. — Bates College junior Alex Gallant (Bangor, Maine) was named NESCAC Men’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week on Monday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference, sharing the honor with Demetrius Porter of Connecticut College.
Gallant erupted for a career-high 24 points on 9-14 shooting and made three steals from off the bench on Friday as Bates defeated Amherst, 76-47, for the first time since the 1987-88 season. Gallant scored 18 in the second half as the Bobcats pulled away with the historic win. The following day he scored a game-high 18 points on 9-13 shooting and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds in a 70-63 victory over Trinity, the Bobcats’ fifth consecutive win.
It is the first conference honor for Gallant, and also the first time this season a member of the team has won a Player of the Week award.
