LEWISTON, Maine — Bates junior Brian Ellis (Braintree, Mass.) earned First Team All-Conference honors on Wednesday, as the New England Small College Athletic Conference announced its All-NESCAC Men’s Basketball Team.
Ellis, a team captain, was perhaps the most consistent player on the team and one of the Bobcats’ most aggressive and energetic players. He led Bates in scoring (15.0 ppg) and rebounding (6.9 rpg), both career-high averages. He also posted an impressive .511 field goal percentage and ranked second on the Bobcats in steals per game (0.96 spg). Ellis ranked ninth in the NESCAC in both scoring and rebounding, and was also 11th in the conference in field goal percentage, 14th in free throw percentage (.719) and 15th in steals.
Ellis scored in double figures in 22 out of 26 games; he led the Bobcats in scoring 14 times and in rebounding 11 times.
Ellis was one of only two non-seniors to be voted First Team All-NESCAC, along with Williams sophomore guard James Wang.
It is the third postseason honor of the 6-foot-5 forward’s career — in 2008 he was named NESCAC Rookie of the Year as well as a member of the Maine State All-Rookie Team.
