LEWISTON, Maine — Bates College senior Lauren Yanofsky added yet another postseason honor to her dossier on Wednesday, as D3Hoops.com released its All-Region teams. Yanofsky (Belmont, Mass.) was elected Third Team All-Northeast Region by the Web site.
The 5-foot-11 forward has now earned five postseason honors. Yesterday she was named Second Team All-New England by the New England Women’s Basketball Association (NEWBA). Prior to this week, Yanofsky was named First Team All-Conference by the NESCAC, as well as Second Team All-State by the Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA), and she has been selected to play in the annual NEWBA Senior All-Star Classic at Western New England College on March 27.
Yanofsky was perhaps Bates’ most explosive and versatile player this season. She led the Bobcats (14-12) in scoring (15.1 ppg), rebounding (6.4 rpg) and blocked shots (1.96 bpg), all career highs, and ranked third, 11th and second, respectively, among conference players in those categories. She also ranked 12th in the NESCAC in steals (1.69 spg) and was second on the Bobcats in assists, with 2.1 per game. Out of 26 games this season, she led the Bobcats in scoring 15 times and rebounding 14 times. She also scored in double figures in 23 of 26 games, including the final 11 contests of the season.
In Bates’ final game this season, a loss to No. 1-ranked Amherst in the semifinals of the NESCAC Championship, Yanofsky netted her 1,000th career point, becoming the 17th Bates woman to reach that milestone. She finished her career with 1,001 points, 460 rebounds, 174 assists, 127 steals and 120 blocked shots — only seven shy of the Bates career blocks record of 127 held by Laura Hollingsworth ’83.
